SIBU: Sibu Member of Parliament Oscar Ling Chai Yew’s Service Centre has successfully assisted 88 local residents in applying for the Sarawak Senior Citizen Health Benefit Programme (SCHB) at Permai yesterday (Dec 16).

According to Ling’s assistant, Irene Wong, the centre’s mobile service counter offered online applications for the SCHB from 8.30 am to 12.10 pm.

She noted that the event saw a much larger crowd compared to the first event held at Paradom’s Selalo Cafe recently.

The attendees included Chinese, Malay, and Iban participants.

She highlighted some common challenges observed during the event, such as elderly participants attending alone and struggling with smartphone usage.

Wong (seated) is having a busy time attending to the elderly’s applications.

Additional time was spent explaining the process to them, including guiding them on how to use smartphones to access the list of 18 partner clinics under the programme.

Wong explained that the programme is a welfare initiative aimed at assisting senior citizens who are unfamiliar with applying for government benefits, helping them access health benefits through online applications.

She also announced that the next mobile service counter will take place on Dec 18 at 169 Kopitiam, Rantau Panjang Lorong 2, near Pasar Teku.

According to her, the event will run from 8.30 am to 11.30 am, and seniors aged 60 and above residing nearby are encouraged to attend and apply. Applicants are required to bring a photocopy of their MyKad for registration.

She further clarified that the programme is only open to Malaysian citizens aged 60 and above.

“Applicants must present a MyKad with the letter ‘K’ on it and have a household income of less than RM7,000 per month. Those earning above RM7,000 do not qualify for the SCHB,” she said.

The mobile service counter sees a large turnout of elderly participants.
