MIRI: A total of nine motorcycles were seized, and 26 summonses were issued during an anti-Mat Rempit operation conducted by the Miri District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department on Friday night.

The operation, led by Inspector G Visvanathan A/L Guna Cekeren, began at 11 pm on March 8 and targeted areas notorious for illegal motorcycle stunts — Jalan Marina and Jalan Miri Bypass.

These locations have become hotspots for reckless riders, posing a danger to themselves and other road users.

During the enforcement exercise, police stopped and inspected several motorcyclists, resulting in the seizure of nine motorcycles for further action.

Additionally, 26 summonses were issued for various traffic offences.

The police urged parents to monitor their teenage children closely to prevent them from engaging in illegal street racing or riding motorcycles without a valid licence.

Authorities also reminded parents and guardians that they could face fines or imprisonment if they allow underage individuals to operate vehicles on public roads.
