DARO: A total of 9,404 residents in Daro who are eligible for the Sarawak Basic Needs Assistance (SKAS) 2026 will receive assistance under the Sarawak Government’s welfare initiative aimed at easing the rising cost of living.
Daro assemblyman Dr Safiee Ahmad said the beneficiaries comprise 4,287 household recipients, 4,019 single individuals, and 1,098 senior citizens.
He said the implementation of SKAS reflects the Sarawak Government’s continued commitment to safeguarding the welfare of the people, particularly those in the low-income group.
“The Sarawak Government consistently takes a proactive approach in safeguarding the welfare of the people through various forms of aid and initiatives designed to ensure the well-being of the people remains protected,” he said.
He said this during the launch of the SKAS contribution for the Daro state constituency held at Dewan Masyarakat Daro on Friday.
Safiee added that SKAS is among several welfare initiatives introduced by the state government that have brought significant benefits to the people of Sarawak.
He said these include the Post-Natal Assistance (BIB), which supports mothers after childbirth; the Elderly Assistance (BWE), which helps safeguard the welfare of the elderly; and the Endowment Fund Sarawak (EFS), which provides initial savings for babies born in the state.
In addition, the state government has introduced the free personal accident insurance scheme for Sarawak residents, alongside various educational assistance programmes, including scholarships and higher education support, to ensure students can pursue their studies without financial constraints.
“All these initiatives reflect the commitment of the Sarawak Government to ensure that development in the state goes hand in hand with the well-being of the people,” he said.
Safiee also expressed his appreciation to all parties involved in the implementation of the programme, including government agencies and local community leaders, for ensuring that assistance reaches the intended recipients.
