A total of 95 applications for the Temporary Document for Stateless Individuals in Sarawak were received between Jan 1 and May 19 this year.
Women, Early Childhood and Wellbeing Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said of the total, 35 applications were approved, while the remaining 60 applications were rejected.
“This is because the applications did not meet all the requirements, including the absence of a birth certificate or the birth certificate not being registered in Sarawak.
“In addition, there was no application for citizenship under Article 15A of the Federal Constitution, and the applicants were over 21 years old,” she said.

She said this during her winding-up speech at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.
In the meantime, Fatimah stated that as of Apr 30, the National Registration Department (JPN) of Sarawak had received and approved a total of 42 applications for the inclusion of the ‘K’ indicator on the identity cards of the children involved.
“In my last winding-up speech, I’ve informed that the state government, on Sept 26, 2024, approved the inclusion of the ‘K’ indicator on the identity cards of children.
“This ‘K’ indicator is given to those granted citizenship under Article 15A of the Federal Constitution and raised by Sarawakian permanent resident parents or couples who themselves have the ‘K’ indicator.
“It serves as an additional policy to be adopted by JPN Sarawak,” she added.
