MIRI: The Blood Donor Recruitment Committee of Miri Red Crescent organised the World Blood Donor Day Blood Donation drive with the theme “Safe blood for all” at Permaisuri Imperial City Mall here, yesterday.
The World Blood Donor Day is a global public health campaign led by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and serves to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.
Miri was the first in the country to achieve the ‘Voluntary Non-Remunerated Blood Donation’ 30 years ago and has maintained the status ever since.
Out of the 108 persons who registered, 96 managed to donate their blood yesterday.
Miri Red Crescent Blood Donors Recruitment organising committee chairman Karambir Singh thanked the organising chairlady, Anne Sabut and her team for the event success.
“Our partial sponsors for this event were Sarawak Oil Palm and Thai Poo Community Association Miri,” he said.
The next blood donation campaign will be the Sarawak Day Blood Donation drive at Emart Riam on July 21 from 9.30am to 1pm.
