SARIKEI: A total of 96 students have received school uniform and shoe assistance for the 2026 academic year.
The assistance was contributed by Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities and Sarikei MP Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.
“This assistance is part of my continuous commitment to strengthening student welfare in the Sarikei parliamentary constituency, especially in Repok,” he said through a press statement today (Dec 29).
He added that the contribution aims to ease parents’ financial burden while motivating students to begin the next phase of their education with greater confidence.
Huang, who is also the Repok assemblyman, said the aid distribution was coordinated by the Representative Service Centre team, which conducted visits to the selected schools to personally deliver the assistance.
“All recipients were Year Six students preparing to transition into secondary education, particularly those entering transition classes and Form One next year.
“The initiative focused on ensuring students are equipped with basic schooling necessities before beginning their secondary school journey in 2026,”he said.
The schools involved in the programme included SK St Augustine, SJKC Ming Chiang, SJKC Kai Sing and SJKC Tung Kwong.
Other participating schools were SK Sungai Kawi, SJKC Yong Kwong, SK Tulai and SJKC Kung Cheng.
Also included were SJKC Tong Hua, SJKC Nang Hua, SJKC Yong Cheng and SJKC Ming Shing.
In addition, students from SK Sungai Sian and SK Tanjung Bundung also benefited from the assistance programme.
Huang said the uniform and shoe aid was designed not only to provide material support but also emotional encouragement for students.
He noted that starting secondary school can be challenging, and proper preparation helps students feel more comfortable and self-assured.
According to him, the initiative has been implemented consistently since 2019 to ensure students in Repok receive appropriate and timely support.
“Education remains a priority, particularly in providing equal opportunities through access to essential school supplies.
He expressed hope that the assistance would be fully utilised and serve as motivation for students to strive for academic excellence.
He also encouraged students to remain diligent in their studies and focus on holistic personal development throughout their schooling years.
“The programme reflects ongoing efforts by the Sarikei parliamentary and Repok constituency leadership to support education and student welfare sustainably,”he said.
