SIMANGGANG: A total of 98 scouts received the Sarawak Scouting 111th Anniversary Commemorative Medal in recognition of their dedication to the movement at a ceremony held here last Saturday (Jan 31).
The medals were presented by Sarawak Deputy Chief Scout Commissioner Methodius George Segie, who stood in for Chief Scout Commissioner John Lim Boon Beng.
Among those honoured was Sri Aman District Scout Commissioner Rid Munsheh, who received the gold medal for his exceptional service and contributions to scouting development at the district level.
The awards were distributed across three categories: 17 gold medals, 13 silver medals and 68 bronze medals.
In his speech read by Methodius, Lim commended the Sri Aman District Scouts leadership for organising a well-coordinated and meaningful ceremony.
He noted the timing was ideal, providing a positive start to 2026 and an opportunity to renew commitment to advancing scouting activities in the district and throughout Sarawak.
The Chief Commissioner highlighted that such recognition serves to motivate commissioners, council members, and scout leaders who have dedicated years of service to the movement.
“Their sustained efforts have led to numerous achievements that have brought honour to Sarawak scouting,” he said.
The 111th anniversary celebration in 2024 marked a significant milestone in documenting the journey of a movement that has now spanned more than 113 years in the state.
The ceremony was also attended by District Education Officer Abdul Rahman Muhiyuddin, Honorary Commissioner Captain Zainuddin Hamdan, Sri Aman District Scout Council Chairman Stanley James Batang, council members, commissioners, scout leaders, school principals and headmasters, as well as scouts from across the Sri Aman Division.
