KUCHING: A total of 987 saplings of Bucide White, Bucida Green, Bougainvillea, Euginea and Yellow bell were planted yesterday around the vicinity of the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), here. 557 of Bucide White, Bucida Green and Bougainvillea were planted along the 1.2km inner road of BCCK while 430 of Euginea and Yellow bell saplings are planted along 2.5km of Jalan Kruing.

It was held during the ‘Pengindahan Alam Sekiitar’ (Environment Beautification) programme organised by the Association of Wives of Ministers and Assistant Ministers of Sarawak (SABATI) and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) yesterday.

Gracing the event was SABATI President, Datin Patinggi Dato’ Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang a c c omp a n i e d by Deputy Presidents, Datin Amar Doreen Mayang and Dato Dayang Morliah Awang Daud. Mayor of DBKU Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai said in his opening speech that the programme was held in line with DBKU’s Clean, Beautiful and Safe (CBS) initiative.

“Holding programmes like this would increase the awareness and the interest of the people on the beauty and the importance of caring for our environment.

“Through such programmes also we are able to strengthen the bond between different departments and agencies which are involved in the programme,” said Wahap. Members of Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB), Land Custody and Development Authority (PELITA) and Sarawak Economic Development Corporat ion (SEDC) were also present during the programme.
