KUCHING: The Indonesian Consulate General here has agreed to work together with the state government in resolving the rabies outbreak.

Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that a committee had been formed after he chaired a meeting with their counterpart a few weeks earlier.

“Each of us will now monitor dogs which go in and out of the borders. They will update anything that regards to rabies from their side and so will we.

“Apart from that, the establishment of the Immunity Belt is also currently being discussed,” said Uggah when addressing a press conference held at the Bau Civic Centre, near here yesterday.

As of now, Uggah told that there had been no information being channelled from Indonesia to Sarawak.

“We will give focus in handling the matter at hand first,” said Uggah who is also the Chairman of the State Disaster Management Committee.

He then added that 14 samples that were taken earlier before this had shown negative result from rabies.

“We hope that this is a sign that the outbreak is slowly being resolved,” he added.
