Afternoon fire leaves family of five homeless

KUCHING: A family of five was made homeless after their wooden house in Kampung Batong, Jalan Kunang in Lawas was razed to the ground in a fire yesterday afternoon.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), five personnel in a fire engine and an EMRS vehicle, led by Senior Fire Officer II Ikhwan Abdullah, were dispatched to the scene after being alerted on the incident at 12.45pm.

Upon their arrival at 1.00pm, the single storey building was engulfed by flames. They took about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control before completely dousing it at 2.00pm.

Other than the house the victims’ car was also destroyed in the incident.

No injuries and human casualties were reported and the cause of the fire and estimated loss have yet to be ascertained as of press time.
