MUKAH: The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak plans to have 50 fire stations in the state to provide wider coverage to the people especially in critical areas.

Sarawak Bomba deputy director Jainal @ Zainal Madasin said currently there were 34 fire stations in the state, while three more (Selangau, Bintangor and Sibu Jaya) would be operational soon.

He added more fire stations would be built in future especially in areas which really needed Bomba services.

“However, the implementation of new fire stations would depend very much on the availability of funds,” he said at a news conference during his working visit to Mukah Bomba on Thursday.

Earlier, when addressing local firefighters, Zainal praised them for playing ‘two-in-one’ roles, that is, as civil firefighters and firefighters for the local airport.

Present was Mukah fire chief Azman Hanafis and Zone 4 Bomba chief Janggan Muling.
