KUCHING: A Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) team from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) was called into action after a report of spilt titanium dioxide and sulphur was received from the Semenggok Agriculture Research Centre near here, yesterday.

The spillage was reported to have occurred at a store of the centre around 10.00am and four people, who were exposed to the chemicals, were ordered to undergo decontamination before being taken to a hospital for further treatment by Agriculture Department staff.

Eight Hazmat personnel, led by Senior Fire Officer II Nurzainuldin from Tabuan Jaya fire station were mobilised to the scene to contain and clean up the spill after a distress call was received at 10.15am.

They were assisted by five personnel from Siburan fire station.
