SIBU: A new Covid-19 cluster named the Pasai Cluster has been detected in this town.
Sibu Division Resident Charles Siaw said the cluster involved 37 confirmed cases. They were detected through the screening results based on the case of a woman who returned from Johor (Case 1,175) on Dec 29, 2020.
“The case (1,175) was announced by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Jan 7, 2021. The case is being treated at Sibu Hospital.
“On Dec 29, 2020, she returned from Johor Bahru via Kuala Lumpur to Kuching at 1.35pm. After arriving at Kuching International Airport, she was screened for the first time and the results were negative.
“She then proceeded to Sibu and was asked to quarantine at home in Pasai Siong (Rumah Langi about 15km from the junction of Jalan Teku Pasai Siong) to attend the funeral of her father,” Siaw said in a press conference today.
He said upon the second screening at Jalan Lanang Health Clinic on Jan 6, the result was positive for Covid-19. He added, a total of 74 Rh Langi residents were screened where 37 were found positive.
“Screening will be carried out at the nearby longhouses on Jan 9 and Jan 10. The Police have set up a roadblock at the entrance to Rumah Langi. Food and health facilities will be given to nine longhouses involved in the roadblock,” he said.
He said, from Jan 8 onwards, passengers arriving at Sibu from outside Sarawak would be quarantined at hotels.
Meanwhile, Siaw urged anyone who had attended the funeral ceremony at Rumah Langi, Pasai Siong on Dec 29 to Dec 31 last year to come forward for screening at Jalan Lanang Health Clinic or Sibu Jaya Health Clinic.
“Any approval to hold any event or public assembly programme that has been approved by the Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee previously is withdrawn with immediate effect,” he said.
