More than 300 partake in mutual assist event

SANTUBONG: Over 300 participants were involved during the gotong-royong (mutual assist) session in Kampung Santubong organised by the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) recently. Participants consisted of staff from SEDC and its subsidiary companies, the Malaysian Anti- Corruption Commission (MACC), Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and residents of Kampung Santubong.

Present to grace the session was the General Manager of SEDC, Soedirman Aini accompanied by the Director of MACC Dato’ Badrul Shah Norman and Kampung Santubong community leader, Suhaili Kifli.

In his opening speech, Soedirman said that the programme was to spread awareness of cleanliness and environmental protection among the people and organisations involved. The programme was par t of SEDC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme to give back to one of the oldest settlements in Kuching. “SEDC is committeed to perpetually supporting and enhancing the wellbeing of the community that it serves. “I am also most delighted with the number of people turning out to be part of the programme,” said Soedirman.

Prior to the mutual assist event all participants joined a short morning exercise before they were divided into groups that were to work in four different zones.

In the afternoon, Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity, Dr. Abdul Rahman Junaidi made his appearance at the programme. In his closing remarks, Abdul Rahman proposed to other government agencies to also organise similar programmes as an annual event.
