
KUCHING: On last 29 Jan at 1033hrs, the Fire and Rescue Services Department (BBP) Kapit received a distress call from Kapit Police Station regarding a capsized barge at Nanga Buan of the Rajang River.
BBP Kapit immediately sent assets such as one unit of Hilux vehicle and one boat together with four personnel led by PBK II Perita Anak Jepai.
The operation commander was PBK I Sengiang Anak Usat (Operation Officer of BBP Kapit). Based on the report from Kapit police, the barge loaded with gravel capsized.
Out of the seven crew on board, five managed to save themselves but two were still not found.
Yesterday on the fifth day of search and rescue (SAR) operation involving BBP Kapit, marine police and other police personnel still failed to locate the missing victims Yesterday’s SAR operation was done until 5pm and to be continued today.
The two missing victims are Abhishek Kiran Jamdade (male) aged 20 and Kaishna Radheshayam Badai (male), aged 28.
Both are Indian nationals, said a press statement from Pusat Gerakan Operasi Bomba in Kuching yesterday. Three policemen and one boat as well as six marine police personnel and two boats were also involved according to the press statement.
