KUCHING: The Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank (TDHUS) has appealed to the public to donate their blood at TDHUS or the nearby TDHUS Mobile Blood Donation Campaign Unit.
In a press statement issued yesterday, the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) revealed that they have faced a shortage of blood supplies for types A, B and AB which were at low level while blood O was at a moderate level.
The hospital uses 45 to 50 blood units per day.
This is due to increased bleeding cases such as vomiting, accidental cases of internal bleeding, complicated surgeries and the use of daily blood supply for cancer, leukemia and thalassemia patients.
The hospital requested that members of the public, especially donors who have matured past the donation period to donate blood at TDHUS or at Blood Donation Campaign locations this weekend.
The Donation Record Book is required to enable TDHUS to update the donation amount.
“For first time donors, they only need to bring their Identity Card and Donation Record Book will be provided by TDHUS. Before donating, the general public are advised to eat beforehand and get enough rest or have slept for at least five hours,” said the statement.
The Mobile Blood Donation Campaign Unit would be at four locations this weekend. The first location on Saturday, February 24, at Maritime Enforcement Agency of Malaysia, Sarawak, Muara Tebas from 9am to 2pm.
The second location at Mydin Vista Tunku, Petra Jaya from 10am to 4pm.
On Sunday, February 25, the Mobile Blood Donation Campaign Unit would be at Emart Batu Kawa from 10 am to 3 pm and at Summermall, Kota Samarahan also at the same time.
The hospital disclosed that they welcome the participation of agencies or government departments and non-governmental organisations to jointly organise the Blood Donation Campaign to help increase blood supply at TDHUS.
For further inquiries, members of the public may contact TDHUS at 082 276797 or 276795.
