
MIRI: Five men believed to be involved in tresspassing a brick factory for the purpose of stealing electric cables were arrested in at the incident site along the Miri-Lutong road in Miri yesterday afternoon.
In the incident at about 4pm, all the suspects aged 22 to 42 years were allegedly stealing some pieces of roof and electric cables at the factory.
District Police chief Assistant Police Commissioner (ACP) Lim Meng Seah when contacted confirmed the arrest and said he received information from the public informing a group of unidentified men were in the brick factory area in suspicious condition.
He said a team of patrol policemen (MPVs) was then directed to the site for inspection.
“Police personnel who arrived at the site found that the five suspects picking up some pieces of roof and electrical cables.
“When they realised the police presence, they tried to escape, but failed,” he said.
Lim said police also seized some equipment such as hoe; hammer, wire cutter and umbrella canopy set which were believed to be used to commit the crime.
“Also seized was a motorcycle and a Perodua Kancil car believed belonging to one of the suspects,” he said.
He said all detained suspects were locals and detained at the Miri Central Police Station’s lock up for further investigation.
“The case is being investigated under Section 379 and Section 511 of the Penal Code,” he said.
