KUCHING: State Health Department will hold a Tuberculosis Awareness Week 2018 from 5 to 13 March in conjunction with the World TB (tuberculosis) Day.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Towards a Tuberculosis-free Malaysia: Early Detection and Firmly Healed” (Ke Arah Malaysia Bebas Tibi: Kesan Awal dan Pastikan Sembuh).
World TB (tuberculosis) Day is celebrated every 24 March to commemorate the founding of the Tuberculosis germs by Dr Robert Koch in 1882.
The objective of the state-level Tuberculosis Awareness Week 2018 is to enhance knowledge among the people about the disease by advocating promotion, prevention, early detection, and tuberculosis treatment activities.
According to statistics provided by the State Health Department the number of registered tuberculosis cases in Sarawak last year was 2,797 cases.
