TEBEDU: A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched for an elderly woman reported missing after failing to return home from finding fiddlehead (pucuk paku).

The victim identified as Dingun Kamo, 78, is reported to have left her house in Kampung Sejijak Mawang around 2pm, to look for fiddlehead in a farm nearby on Monday (Feb 14).

However, her family realised that she did not return home until the next day (Feb 15), which prompted them to inform rescue agencies for assistance

Firemen from Serian station and the police were deployed to the scene, about 44km from the station, after receiving a report around 2.20pm.

The team carried out an initial search together with the villagers but to no avail.

The second day of the operation (Feb 16) involving 10 firemen, two police officers and 120 villagers, had also enlisted help from the K-9 special unit to look for Dingun.

As at press time, the victim is yet to be found and no new leads surfaced.
