KUCHING: A total of 8,000 packs of Kuih Gawai Raya were distributed to 10 agencies of defence and enforcement during the presentation of Sumbangsih Kuih Gawai Raya 2018 at the Old DUN Complex, Petra Jaya here yesterday.

The 10 agencies were Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Sarawak Prisons Department (JPNS), Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM), Sarawak Immigration Department (JIM), Royal Malaysia Customs Department (JKDM), Road Transport Department (JPJ), Civil Defence Force (APM) and The People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA).

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg said that every welfare assistance given to the people in Sarawak will be continued by the state government.

“The state government is emphasising on welfare works and we will continue to give allocation for welfare works in the state especially to those in need and those who come from low income group, we will continue helping them,” he explained.

He added that the recent announcement on the reduction of land title issuance premium for residential lots at resettlement and village extension scheme areas by 50 per cent or RM2,500 from RM5,000 can be paid in a period of 10 years.

“This is to reduce the cost of living for people in low income group and the state government will also develop the housing areas whereby the cost of land filling (penembokan tanah), construction of drains and roads will be incurred by the state government,” he pointed out.

He added that the state government would have a strong financial position that certainly would benefit the people.

When met by reporters after the event, Abang Johari mentioned that the state government have sufficient resources to continue giving welfare assistance to the people.

“It is meant for the people, including the monthly assistance and we will continue giving it,” he said.
