KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Secretary-General, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew has also  congratulated  Selangau Member of Parliament, Baru Bian and Stampin Member of Parliament, Chong Chieng Jen on their appointments as members of the federal Cabinet.

“Congratulations on the two appointments – YB Baru Bian as Works Minister and YB Chong Chieng Jen as Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs,” said Ting, who is also Piasau State Assemblyman  when contacted for his comments on Monday.

“Sarawak is a very big state. With the appointment of  Baru Bian as the Minister of Works, hopefully, there will be more roads  in Sarawak as we need more roads to be built especially in the rural areas.

“We expected and would love  to have more YBs from Sarawak be appointed as  Ministers and Deputy Ministers. Most people (Sarawakians) would have expected that,” Ting added.

Baru, who is Selangau Member of Parliament, was sworn in as Federal Minister of Works and Chong, who is Stampin Member of Parliament,  was sworn in as Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs.

Baru, 60, and Chong, 47, were among 13 more full ministers and 23 deputy ministers who took their oaths of office, allegience and secrecy before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
