City’s first underground car event wows ‘em

KUCHING: Around 170 cars were on display at the city’s first underground car event, the Kuching Automotive Raddest Show (KARS), which attracted over a thousand visitors.

The car-show, which was co-hosted with the What About Kuching (WAK) event, highlighted the unique automotive and motorsport community in town and even attracted participation from Sabah.

Its organising chairman Adibazli Affendi said the event was very well-supported that they had to increase the limit to the number of participants.

“At first we actually limited participation to 150 cars. But, as we received overwhelming registrations, we decided to accept a few more cars.

“The biggest retro automotive show, Retro Havoc from Kuala Lumpur also came down to Kuching to support this event,” he said to New Sarawak Tribune during the event on Sunday (Oct 16).

The atmosphere at the venue was rather packed because it was hosted at Basement 2 of The Hills Kuching.

Having said that, Adibazli expressed hope that if such an event were to be organised again, they would improve on the necessary facilities as well as other services.

“As you can see, as more people came, the area became stuffy and it is quite hot in here.

“More cars will hopefully participate in future events, as well as more merchants and sponsors.

“And we certainly hope that the venue’s sponsor improves the ventilation system,” he said.

For every ticket purchased, visitors were entitled to lucky draw prizes worth up to RM10,000.

Its grand prize was a track-and-drift-built Toyota Starlet KP 61, as well as a special prize of bespoke artwork for a Sony Playstation 4, among others.

The crowd also enjoyed live performances by local DJs namely Dzul Kch, Chaza Ferozha, Awg and Vaux.

The event’s peak came at 7 pm, when participants demonstrated their vehicles in an exit show much to the excitement of visitors who got to see some rare and unique cars they had never seen on the road before.
