KUCHING: SMK Tatau held a retirement ceremony for its teacher Chew Sang Tun, who has served at this school with dedication for 22 years.

Known as ‘Uncle Chew’, last Tuesday (Dec 13) was his last day of teaching due to compulsory retirement at the age of 60 after being a teacher for 38 years.

Last Friday, the educator from Johor was celebrated in a special ceremony ‘Jasamu Dikenang, Budimu Disanjung’ in the school hall.

“Chew was known as a friendly, approachable and charitable person, and his retirement will be felt by all school staff.

“On behalf of the school, we would like to express our highest appreciation and happy retirement to Uncle Chew.” a school spokesman said.

Chew taught English, History, and Moral Education at SMK Tatau. He started his career in education in 1984.

Before serving for more than two decades at SMK Tatau, Chew also served at SK Kuala Pelugau (1984-1988); SK Sepiring (1989-1991); Selangau SK (1992-1993); SJK Tiong Hin, Sibu (1994-1995); SK Belokok, Pontian (1995-1996); SJK Gau San, Pontian (1996-1998); and SM Pekan Nanas (1998-1999).
