BAU: Sarawak’s strong economy has been acknowledged by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Following his appointment as prime minister, the premier said he had received a call from Anwar asking to have breakfast together.

According to Abang Johari, Anwar had jokingly informed him during the call that he had been briefed on the country’s dire financial situation, which included a significant amount of debt.

“_Boleh Sarawak kasi saya pinjam kah_ (Can I borrow from Sarawak, please)? He was joking, though. In other words, he recognised the robust economy of Sarawak,” said the premier.

He said this at the opening ceremony of Bidayuh Cultural Village, Gawai Bani Redeems, and Redeems’ 25th anniversary celebration dinner at the Redeems Centre in Singai here last night (Jan 14).

Additionally to receiving recognition from the prime minister, Abang Johari said London-based organisations also paid a visit to Kuching to learn more about the production of green energy.

He realised that Sarawak is being constantly monitored by the entire world in terms of green energy.

“Two days ago, the executive from Commonwealth with a base in London came to see me after learning that Sarawak would be producing green energy, including hydrogen.

“They are asking me how we do. Mind you, the people from London are coming to Kuching to learn,” he said.
