MIRI: Construction works on the first phase of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Chiaw Nan at Taman Tunku here, are 15 per cent complete.

School board of directors deputy chairman Datuk Hii King Chiong said construction (for the first phase) commenced in October last year, and it is expected for completion within 12 months.

“The cost for the first phase project is estimated to be around RM7.5 million, consisting of two blocks of three-storey buildings,” Hii told the local media today (Jan 16).

Another two blocks would be built under the second phase construction.

Overall, the project is expected to cost RM12 million.

Once completed (phases 1 and 2), the school can accommodate more than 2,000 pupils.

SJK (C) Chiaw Nan is currently located in Marudi, but, once the construction in Taman Tunku is ready, the school would be relocated here.

The whole project site occupies 10 acres of land, and it will have a total of four blocks.

In 2010, prominent entrepreneur Datuk Raziah Mahmud cum the first non-Chinese chairman of a Chinese vernacular school management committee, via her company Kumpulan Parabena Sdn Bhd, donated four hectares of land for the school relocation site (in Taman Tunku).
