KUCHING: The new product designs and research findings shared with entrepreneurs and the craft community can help increase the variety of craft products with more quality, attractiveness, and meeting the needs of consumers at affordable prices.
In stating this, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister (MOTAC) Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said that such development of the local craft industry is very important to ensure that more Malaysians use the local craft products in their daily lives, thereby promoting it.
“Creativity related to new ideas, products or its processes can provide significant added value to any of the local products.
“That is why the Malaysian Crafts industry always creates a process of continuous creativity by taking steps to help craft entrepreneurs in the design aspect and the discovery of new research results in the production of innovative craft products,” he said.
He said this in his Facebook page yesterday in conjunction with the opening ceremony of the National Craft Day 2023.
Bringing the theme of ‘Ini Kraf Malaysia’, he said the National Craft Day 2023 aims to foster awareness and increase community knowledge of locally produced craft products.
In addition to that, he stated that it also includes the involvement of various races in the production of craft products which creates ‘Kraf Identiti Malaysia’ which is in line with the essence of racial unity planned through the Malaysia Madani concept.
Having said that, Tiong affirmed that MOTAC through the Malaysian Crafts will continue to play its role in line with the national goal of Malaysia Madani to eradicate poverty, restructuring of the economy, restoring and improving it (economy).
“In the context of the craft industry, this effort is driven by developing and encouraging more people to venture into and work on craft as a primary or secondary source of income.
“This effort is also able to create new workforce and job opportunities inclusively for all groups. Until 2022, the number of workers in the craft industry is as many as 12,108 people.
“I hope and believe that this number will continue to increase, thus further benefiting the community and the country. Let us together play a role and contribute to this craft industry,” he said.
