KUCHING: The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDNM) has collaborated with the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ACCCIS) Kuching, to launch an education and tax awareness programme aimed at improving voluntary tax compliance rates.

A delegation led by the director of LHDNM Vijayen Nagalingham to the ACCCIS yesterday featured a Question & Answer session on tax matters among others.

“Individual taxpayers and non-individual taxpayers can submit their Income Tax Return Form (BN) for the Assessment Year 2022 and Year of Assessment 2022 via e-Filing, starting from March 1.

“For taxpayers other than individuals such as companies, they can use forms BE, B, M, BT, MT, P, TF, TP, and E to pay their taxes.

“The status of BN submission, refund process, e-Filing, and Monthly Tax Deduction (PCB) information can be checked through MyTax,” he said during the session.

Vijayen added that the objective of this collaborative education and tax awareness programme was to emphasise tax awareness, education, and services to the public as part of efforts to increase voluntary tax compliance rates.

“Taxpayers are also advised to use e-filing services for the purpose of submitting their BN, which can be accessed through the official portal https://www.hasil.gov.my/ or directly through MyTax, via the portal https://mytax.hasil.gov.my or the smartphone application.

“Meanwhile, tax agents are encouraged to use the TAEF service (https://taef.hasil.gov.my/),” he said.

He added that if taxpayers are still having problems with passwords or PIN numbers, they can refer to the guidelines provided in MyTax, call 03-8911 1000 (Domestic) / 603-8911 1100 (International), or visit the nearest service counter.

ACCCIS president Datuk Tan Jit Kee said that their tax awareness programme provides a clearer picture to members about the importance of voluntary tax payment.

“In fact, there are many benefits that can be obtained, especially for the business community, if taxes are paid on schedule and in the right amount.

“One of them is that it opens up bright opportunities for you to borrow from banking institutions, and even the banks will seek you out to offer loans,” he said.

He also suggested that LHDNM and ACCCIS work together more closely to ensure that their members become good taxpayers.

For the record, the tax revenue collected from taxpayers is used by the government to administer and manage the country, including spending on development expenditures.
