KUCHING: The RM116,000 improvement works on the basketball court at Mayor Song Swee Guan Park, Jalan Bayor Bukit Tabuan Jaya here, has been completed.
The court’s overall condition has been enhanced with the existing sports facilities, improving the wellbeing of the local community, said Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
“The project included the application of Laykold Colorcoat System or an approved equivalent with all line marking, washing the basketball court with high jet water pressure, hacking and repairing all cracks and loose surfaces, as well as fabricating and constructing new sets of basketball stands.
“In addition, two sets of 300W LED lights with solar panels on eight-metre high mast lighting poles have been installed, along with six sets of 100 mm diameter GI pipe benches on 100mm thick concrete floors and a pre-cast metal drain cover.
“The project was tentatively scheduled to be completed in one month, but due to weather conditions, the contractor was given a leeway of three months to complete it,” he said during the handiover ceremony for the completion of the project here today.
On a related note, Wee added the significance of sports in promoting public health and cultivating values such as courage, sportsmanship, and tolerance.
Therefore, the project’s goal is to encourage youth to engage in healthy activities through sports promotion, ultimately contributing to the betterment of public health.
The mayor was optimistic that the improvements would foster a more suitable environment for sports, thereby encouraging increased participation in physical activities.
He said that to promote a healthy city, the people should prioritise exercising and maintaining a healthy diet, while the city council will play its part in advocating a healthier lifestyle among its people.
Later, Wee handed over the certificate of completion to the contractor’s representative Steven Lee from Ragam Muhhibah Sdn Bhd.
