KUCHING: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday sentenced an 18-year-old Indonesian woman to two months in prison for being part of an online gambling activity on July 11.

Sisca, who worked as a gambling operator, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

The charge against her stated that she operated a gambling machine using an Oppo computer in a house on Jalan Setia Raja at around 9.15 pm on July 11.

She violated Section 4B (a) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953, which could lead to a maximum prison term of five years or a fine of RM10,000 to RM100,000 if she was found guilty.

Based on the facts of the case, the police from the Kuching IPD Criminal Investigation Department conducted a raid on a house on Jalan Setia Raja at around 9.15 pm on July 11.

During the raid, they arrested Sisca and seized a set of computers believed to be used for online gambling activities.

Gambling experts later confirmed that the confiscated items were indeed used as online gambling machines.

Apart from the gambling charge, Sisca was also fined RM10,000 or given four months in prison for overstaying in the country.

She pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 15 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, and the case was handled by Judge Maris Agan.

The prosecution was handled by DPP Ruvinasini Pandian and Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while Sisca did not have legal representation.
