KUCHING: The Malaysian Government Servants Welfare and Sports Council (Maksak) Sarawak will be sending eight athletes to participate in the National Orienteering Championship Maksak Games 2023, which will take place from Oct 26 to 29 in Kangar, Perlis.

The handover of the Sarawak contingent flag was officiated by Deputy State Secretary (Economic and Development Planning), Datuk Dr Abdullah Zaidel at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here on Tuesday (Oct 24).

Abdullah, who also serves as the deputy chairman of Sarawak Maksak, delivered words of encouragement and expressed hopes that the contingent would make history in the upcoming championship, at the same time, enhancing the reputation of the state’s civil service.

In this championship, the athletes will compete in four main categories, namely the Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Men’s Veteran and Women’s Veteran.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Maksak secretary Nazrie Abdullah is optimistic that the team can retain the championship for this edition.

“We have made good preparations, and both participants and team officials are highly committed and disciplined,” he was quoted as saying by Ukas (Sarawak Public Communications Unit).

For the record, Sarawak Maksak emerged as the overall champion in the National Orienteering Championship of the 2023 Maksak National Level in Terengganu, with the same line-up of participants set to compete in this year’s edition.
