KUCHING: The passing of Awangku Omar Pengiran Jawa was a shock for most state ministers here.

Omar, 59, was the special administrative officer to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan for 28 years.

Welfare, Community Well-Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said she was shocked to learn about his death.

“The late Awangku Omar was humble, down-to-earth and  cool. “He was also a very experienced private secretary,” she said yesterday.

She said his passing would be a great loss to his families and friends.  Omar passed away in Johor where he was holidaying with his family. He was believed to have suffered heart attack.

His body was flown back to his house at Jalan Sultan Tengah yesterday morning. He was laid rest after the Zohor prayer.
