KUCHING: Hajon Mahdy, who represented Borneo Skycam from Pontianak, Indonesia emerged the champion of StartUp Borneo 2018 “Final Pitch” which was held at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak here on Oct 21 and 22.
He was among 18 finalists selected to deliver startup or pitching presentation at the “Final Pitch”, jointly organised by Pustaka Negeri Sarawak and StartUp Borneo in conjunction with “Makers Meet 2018”.
The entrepreneur programme is aimed at encouraging creators, designers and entrepreneurs in Malaysia, especially in Sarawak to develop new ideas as well as sharing their inventions
and businesses.
First runner-up spot went to Nicholas Hon representing Roselle’s Kitchen brand while second runner-up was Awang Shahrizan Awang Abu Bakar representing SiaSitok Sign Language AR Flashcard.
Hajon took home cash amounting to RM2,000, while winners for second and third spots respectively received RM1,000 and RM500. Two consolation prizes for ‘Best Presenter ‘and’ Best Idea’ won RM200 each.
Deputy State Secretary Datuk Dr Sabariah Putit officiated at the prize presentation ceremony, witnessed by International Trade & E-Commerce Ministry’s assistant secretary Catherine Lee Pi Ying at Dormani Hotel in Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol here.
StartUp Borneo has been receiving good response from startup communities in the Borneo region, especially from Sarawak and Kalimantan, Indonesia throughout the year.
StartUp Borneo 2018 is a continuation of the StartUp programme Borneo Pre-Pitching Series and 2nd Series which was held in July and August this year.
In addition, the programe has also successfully promoted the culture startups amongst inventors and entrepreneurs in the Borneo region. This initiative is a good platform for investors and entrepreneurs to get started and to also develop their project or business idea.
In addition, StartUp Borneo is also working together with Old Kuching Village Heritage and international organisations such as Association of Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association of West Kalimantan (HIPMI KALBAR) FinTech4Good and UMADX Online. The StartUp Borneo initiative also receives full support from the state government agency, Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA).
