GEORGE TOWN: A man and a woman who fell into the sea from the Penang Bridge were saved by the swift actions of a brave good Samaritan, who jumped in after them and managed to rescue them.

The man and woman, both in their 30s, were seen arguing at a stop along Kilometre 2.8 Perai-bound before the incident occurred, a Penang Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said.

He added that the department had received a distress call about the incident at 7.49 pm but had discovered that both victims had been rescued upon their arrival at the scene.

“Based on preliminary information, the couple were in a Honda Civic that stopped at the emergency stop on the bridge, and were seen by witnesses arguing before they fell into the water.

A man who happened to pass by immediately jumped after them and rescued them,” he said when contacted last night, adding that a fisherman’s boat that was nearby as well came to their aid, and all three managed to be taken onboard.

The three individuals were taken to the Batu Uban Jetty and handed over to the police and medical team there before being sent to the Penang Hospital for further attention, he added. – BERNAMA
