KUCHING: Julau MP Datuk Larry Sng has cautioned state leaders to be prudent in their spending, particularly on unnecessary mega projects.

While acknowledging Sarawak’s abundant resources and wealth, Sng noted the importance of avoiding overspending, which could lead to significant national debts.

“This will be a problem our future generation will inherit from our bad decisions.

“I would rather the state government look into salvaging the existing sick projects, which I am made to understand, runs into billions of ringgit,” he said in a Facebook post today (Mar 17).

Despite his concerns, Sng commended the overall performance of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), stating that while they are doing a commendable job, there is room for improvement.

On a related note, in referring to American superstar Taylor Swift’s six sold-out Eras tour concerts which concluded recently in Singapore, he said the Lion City attracted large numbers of tourists at a relatively low cost.

“Had Malaysia done the same, I am certain the opposition would find all ways and means to oppose and make this a religious issue.

“That to me is why Malaysia is lagging behind other countries in the region. Everything is somehow tied to race or religion,” he said.

Sarawak on the other hand, he said, does not have such hang ups.

“We just focus on what needs to be done for the people. This doesn’t mean that we don’t have any race issues… It’s just much less,” he said.
