KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has been urged to give priority to installing speed bumps along Jalan Sungai Tapang to address residents’ concerns about speeding vehicles.
The call came from Michael Kong, the special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, following numerous complaints from local residents about vehicles driving at high speeds on Jalan Sungai Tapang, posing dangers to homeowners and road users.
Yesterday (Mar 19), Kong conducted a door-to-door campaign supported by local residents to gather signatures for a petition urging MPP to take action by installing speed bumps.
“The overwhelming response from residents underscores the urgent need for action to enhance road safety measures in our community.
“This petition serves as a vital tool to raise awareness and rally the collective efforts of residents towards a common goal: the implementation of measures to curb speeding and ensure the safety of all road users,” he said in his Facebook post.
He stressed the importance of MPP listening to the community’s collective voice and prioritising road safety measures by installing speed bumps along Jalan Sungai Tapang.
“By coming together and voicing our concerns through this petition, we aim to compel the relevant authorities to take concrete steps to address the pressing issue.
“The safety and well-being of our residents are paramount, and it is crucial that swift action is taken to address this issue and prevent potential accidents and injuries,” he added.
