Rifdean’s explosive victory at ONE Championship debut

KUCHING: In his ONE Championship debut, Sarawakian Muay Thai fighter, Mohd Rifdean Masdor, delivered an outstanding performance, triumphing over Thai fighter Pichai Lookbanmai with a Technical Knockout (TKO) at the ONE Friday Fights 56 at Bangkok’s Lumpinee Boxing Stadium on Saturday.

TV Sarawak (TVS) reported that Mohd Rifdean, who representing Sor Sommai Headhunter Academy Ipoh, needed just 79 seconds to secure his victory in the catchweight category.

His win was not only a significant personal achievement but also came with a financial reward of 350,000 Baht (approximately RM45,854).

“I am very happy with this victory. It’s a dream come true for me. Having my coach by my side, all the way from Malaysia, gave me a massive confidence boost.

“He inspired me to fight with all my heart for my family, team, and country,” he said.

Mohd Rifdean ‘s victory in Bangkok is the latest highlight in a career already decorated with momentous achievements. His accolades include clinching the IFMA Muaythai Senior World Championship U23 2023 in Thailand (51kg), as well as previous titles in Abu Dhabi and Turkey, and gold medals at the 2019 Philippine Sea Games and the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) in 2018 and 2022.

Beyond his triumph, the event also saw standout performances from other Sarawakians; Kabilan Jelevan and Johan “Jojo” Ghazali.
