MIRI: The construction of a concrete drain and a road linking to Kuala Batu Satu fishermen’s boatsheds is expected to be completed by the end of April this year.
This was revealed by Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin yesterday after visiting the project site.
“Hopefully, by early May this year, the fishermen can use this facility,” he said.
The project which costs RM300,000 is fully funded and carried out by Petronas Carigali.
“There are high pressure gas pipes passing through this area (at the missing road link site) and last year, we have approached Petronas Carigali seeking for their assistance and they were willing to take up the project as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) project,” said Lee when met after inspecting the progress of the project in Kampung Kuala Batu Satu Fishermen Market.
Both the representatives from Petronas Carigali and the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) were also present to accompany Lee.
Once the project is completed, both the old and new fishermen’s market at Kuala Batu Satu markets can share the facility.
The new Kuala Batu Satu Fishermen Market is located just a walking distance from the old market, and it is managed by the Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) while the old market is managed by the villagers.
On the proposed coastal protection project (the wave breaker) which was approved by the previous federal government, it is currently in the stage of design process.
The project cost is estimated at RM25 million.
