KUCHING: A total of 200 Form four students of SMK Petra Jaya took part in an education carnival held at the school yesterday.
The theme of the carnival is ‘Drug Prevention in SMK Petra Jaya’.
State National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) Deputy Director, Winnie Lungit who officiated at the closing ceremony of the carnival said it was common for drug peddlers to target school children as they were easier to influence.
“Many of our children are given pocket money which ranges from RM3 to RM10 per day. Of course these drug peddlers see this as an opportunity for them to sell the illegal substance and at the same time, expanding their traget market.
“That is why schools must play is role to protect its students from engaging with strangers who use and selldrugs,” she said.
Also present was SMK Petra Jaya principal, Awang Daud Awang Lehin.
