KUCHING: The Red Crescent Society in Sarawak has won top marks for its unwavering commitment to community service through initiatives such as blood donation campaigns and charitable activities.
This commitment was evident through the recent increase in the number of blood donors, said Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap at the 2024 Blood Donor Award presentation ceremony organised by the MRCS Kuching Branch.
“MRCS Sarawak truly embodies the spirit of our state’s slogan, as reflected in the Sarawak national anthem Ibu Pertiwiku – to unite, strive, and serve.
“Every time I attend these events, I am inspired by their dedication and sacrifice. They show that actions speak louder than words, and their continuous efforts, particularly in increasing the number of female blood donors, demonstrate how we can work together to help those in need,” he said.
Yap praised the society for being more than just a symbol of unity and sacrifice, saying it is also a catalyst for various community programmes that instill noble values among the people of Sarawak.
“Unity is the foundation of all success. Through collective effort, we can achieve even more for the people. MRCS’ hard work shows that goals can be reached through determination,” he added.
In a show of support for future community initiatives, Yap also announced a contribution of RM15,000 for the Run To Save Lives 5.0 charity run, scheduled for June 22, 2025.
During the ceremony, MRCS Kuching Branch presented seven challenge trophies for the year 2023.
Five of the awards were given to the Sarawak Youth Division, Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian Chinese Associations, which collectively contributed 8,140 pints of blood.
The remaining two trophies were awarded to Tay Motors Kuching, which donated 1,010 pints, and the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) Kuching, which contributed 617 pints.
Also present at the event were Dr. Chuo Chu Ming, Deputy Chairman of MRCS Kuching Branch, Titus Chuo, Vice Chairman of MRCS Kuching Branch, and Dr Ngian Hie Ung, Director of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
