KUCHING: Following the success of its first edition, the Bintulu Amateur Muay Thai Challenge (BAMC) returns with its second edition, taking place today and tomorrow.
The event is held at the Sukma XXI Sarawak Naim Street Mall, Bintulu Paragon, once again serving as the venue for BAMC II.
The competition will showcase amateur fighters from across Sarawak vying for the championship title.
Organised by the Bintulu Muay Thai Association in collaboration with the Sarawak State Muay Thai Association (PMNS), the event aims to promote, develop and uncover new talents in Muay Thai in Sarawak, particularly in Bintulu.
PMNS president Jumaat Ibrahim stated that this event, supported by the association, is designed to introduce and expand Muay Thai as a sport while encouraging young people to engage in healthy activities and reduce unhealthy behaviours through indirect promotion in amateur or Muaysport competitions.
“This activity can serve as a catalyst for larger national-level events in the future while also creating a sports brand in the country, similar to other sports.
“Furthermore, it aims to increase public awareness of Muay Thai and promote health through active participation,” he said in a statement issued recently.
In addition to the Muaysport fights, several other activities will be held to make this year’s challenge even more meaningful.
Among them is a silat performance by Perguruan Seni Silat Gerak Hidayat, telling the history of Bintulu in a flash mob titled ‘Metuk Ulow’.
Jumaat also mentioned that tomorrow, the event will feature a special match with professional wrestler, ‘Azwan Serigala’, who will face off against his challenger.
“Alongside the competition, we are incorporating various other activities to promote the culture, traditional games, and customs of Bintulu while also showcasing Bintulu to visitors,” he added.
He also expressed his gratitude to the event’s sponsors, including Press Metal, Bintulu Port, Mays Ville Sdn Bhd, Medik Premier, Haidie Johan, the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), and Naim Street Mall, Bintulu Paragon for their support in making BAMC possible again this year.
At the same time, Jumaat invited Bintulu residents to fill the Naim Street Mall, Bintulu Paragon, to witness the exciting action.
