SIBU: Sibu Member of Parliament Oscar Ling Chai Yew and his team recently distributed 2025 calendars, freshly printed, creatively designed red packets for the upcoming 2025 Year of the Snake, and cookies at the Sibu Central Market.

Ling shared that distributing red packets and New Year calendars is an annual tradition organised by his service centre.

Through this event, he said that he has the opportunity to connect with Sibu residents, offer greetings, and extend his blessings.

“Since December also marks the celebration of Christmas, it is an occasion to share festive wishes as well.

“For the 2025 Year of the Snake, my service centre has collaborated with two local young designers to create two unique styles of red packets. One is designed with the theme ‘Spring, Luck, and Peace’.

“Inspired by the Year of the Snake, the design by Chris Lu, a graduate of a design programme in Taiwan, incorporates elements such as flora, paper cuttings, and window patterns blended with indigenous motifs, symbolising vitality and prosperity.

“The other red packet design, themed ‘Prosperity, Fortune, and Growth’, was created by Hii Zhou Sheng and features traditional New Year symbols, such as lion dances, gold ingots, oranges, and peach blossoms, creating a festive and jubilant atmosphere,” he enthused.

He expressed his hope to showcase the talents of local youth by collaborating with young designers, enabling them to demonstrate their skills and creativity. This initiative also highlights Sibu’s cultural and artistic strengths.

For those who enjoy collecting red packets, Ling invited residents to visit the MP Sibu Oscar Ling’s Service Centre at Rejang Park to collect them while supplies last.
