KUCHING: As the 22nd MSN-MILO Malaysia Youth U14 Volleyball Championship 2024 approaches, Sarawak’s Under-14 volleyball teams are making their final preparations for a fierce competition in Shah Alam from Dec 18 to Dec 21.
With both boys’ and girls’ teams aiming for top honours, the athletes are ready to showcase their skills and continue Sarawak’s strong tradition of success on the national stage.
The event is expected to feature some of the best young volleyball talent from across Malaysia, including the Sarawak’s under-14 teams.
Chairman of Sarawak Volleyball Association, Datuk Moh Wung Ming, said the teams are ready for the challenge.
“Preparation has been going well, we’ve been preparing for about two weeks now.
“The boys’ team, while composed of a mix of experienced and newer players, is in good shape.
“The girls’ team, although made up of new players this year, has shown great potential,” he told Sarawak Tribune over a phone on Thursday (Dec 12).
Despite the changes in the lineup, the goal remains the same – to clinch the championship title.
“Every year, we aim for the championship because of the resources we invest in our teams.
“We are confident that, with the right preparation, we can compete with the best teams in the country,” he said.
Last year, the Sarawak boys’ team secured second place, while the girls emerged as champions.
This year, the association expects strong competition from teams like Selangor, Johor, and Kuala Lumpur, all of which have been steadily improving in recent years.
The Sarawak under-14 with both the girls and the boys comprise of 14 players will depart for Shah Alam on Dec 16 in preparation for the tournament, where they will face off against some of the top youth volleyball teams from across the nation.
“We are ready to give our best and aim for the top spot,” Moh said.
As the tournament draws near, the excitement builds for the chance to showcase the hard work and talent of Sibu’s young athletes at the prestigious national event.
On Wednesday (Dec 11), Tan Sri Datuk Sri Moh Wung Sing, President of the Sarawak Volleyball Association (SAVA), officiated the Flag Presentation Ceremony at the Sibu Volleyball Association (SVA) Indoor Volleyball Stadium.
During the ceremony, the Sarawak flag was presented to the team managers, representing the pride of the state.
