KUCHING: A local woman and her Nigerian boyfriend were arrested and have been detained in connection with the discovery of a box containing drugs, worth RM347,300, in her office last week.
State’s Head of Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) Superintendent Sahar Abdul Latiff said that both suspects had been actively dealing drugs since the end of last year.
The first suspect, a 25-year-old Sarawakian who works in a private company was arrested at her office at 1.50pm in Jalan Rock while the other suspect, a 28-year-old Nigerian studying in a private institution was arrested at Jalan Satok at 4.50pm on the same day.

“We have been trying to intercept with these two for a long time, but were unable to intercept them at the right time.
“Immediately after the woman received the package flown from Kuala Lumpur, we intercepted and discovered the contents of the package were 962 grammes of Cocaine which was filled in a Milo packaging, 1,299 ecstasy pills wrapped in aluminum and some clothes.
“The total amount of the drugs seized was RM347,000 and were about to be traded in areas surrounding and around Kuching,” said Sahar during a press conference held at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK), here yesterday.
He then added that after prior investigation, both suspects knew each other and that she would mention the name of the Nigerian suspect every time she received a package.
“Currently, the case is still under investigation while both suspects are remanded for seven days from 14 April until 21 April.
“If found guilty, they will be punished under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 in which carries a mandatory death sentence by hanging,” said Sahar.
