KUCHING: The 51st Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championship is set to make a splash from Feb 7 to 9 at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre.
Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) coach Voon said that while the club is sending teams, the club will register under the Kota Samarahan Swimming Association.
“We have some expectations for a few swimmers within the club.
“We are expecting them not only to win medals but also to qualify for the national age group and Southeast Asian (SEA) age group competitions this year,” he told Sarawak Tribune when contacted today.
PASC has announced that their swimmers are diving into full preparation mode for the championship.
“They’ll be making waves and chasing victory. Let’s cheer them on as they chase their dreams and bring home the glory.
“Best of luck to our amazing team. We believe in you,” the club said in a post on their Facebook page.
Six divisions will compete at the event, namely Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, and Sarikei.
For the record, several age groups will compete in the championship — Group 1 (16 to 18 years), Group 2 (14 to 15 years), Group 3 (12 to 13 years), Group 4 (10 to 11 years), and Group 5 (9 years & below).
Swimmers in Groups 1, 2, 3, and 4 can compete in the 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, and 200m individual medley events, while Group 5 swimmers are limited to the 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley.
The Open category, for swimmers aged 19 to 21, will feature the 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle events only.
