KUCHING: Speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom Parliament, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, has described his visit to Sarawak as a meaningful step in rekindling historic ties while paving the way for stronger future cooperation.
When met by reporters after a courtesy visit to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here on Thursday, Hoyle emphasised the importance of renewing long-standing Commonwealth relations and fostering new opportunities for collaboration.
He also expressed his intention to expand bilateral cooperation through potential joint efforts that would benefit both nations, particularly in the fields of trade, education, and social development.
Visiting Malaysia for the first time, Hoyle expressed admiration for the country’s beauty and the warm hospitality he received.
He was optimistic that this visit would mark the beginning of a closer relationship in the future.
The visit was also attended by Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; Acting High Commissioner of the British High Commission, David Wallace; Chief of Staff of the UK Speaker’s Office, Helen Wood; and Deputy Chief of Staff, David Clark.
