MIRI: A gas explosion occurred at a residence in Desa Pujut 2 in the early hours today (Feb 23), causing significant damage to the kitchen area.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre, an emergency call was received at about 5 am.

Firefighters from the Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station were swiftly dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, they discovered that an explosion had occurred in the kitchen of a single-storey permanent residence.

The kitchen, measuring approximately 8×6 square feet, sustained damage to its windows and ceiling.

Authorities suspect the incident was caused by a leak in an LPG gas cylinder.

Firefighters promptly removed the gas cylinder from the house to prevent further risk.

However, no firefighting action was required as there was no active fire at the scene.

At the time of the incident, the occupants were not home, as they were engaged in business activities at a local market.

Investigations into the explosion are ongoing.
