KUCHING: The zakat fitrah rate for 1446H/2025 remains RM7.50 per person, unchanged from the previous year.
According to the Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak general manager Datuk Abang Mohammad Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie, the expected collection for this year is likely to be similar to last year’s, which amounted to RM6.14 million from over 854,000 contributors.
“Based on last year’s collection, we anticipate a similar amount this year, though it may increase slightly or remain close to previous figures,” he told the media at the Sarawak Islamic Complex on Thursday (Feb 27).
Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of fulfilling zakat fitrah obligations with sincerity and responsibility, highlighting its roles in purifying wealth and supporting those in need.
“Paying zakat fitrah is more than just a duty; it is a means of cleansing wealth and ensuring that those in need can celebrate Aidilfitri with dignity.”
Zakat fitrah is a mandatory almsgiving obligation for all Muslims, typically paid during Ramadan before the morning of Aidilfitri, where the funds collected are distributed to eligible recipients, including the poor, the needy, and other asnaf groups.
