KUCHING: Suspecting his wife of having an affair, a man kicked her in the stomach, resulting in soft tissue injuries to her abdomen.
As a result, Eddysurimi Hadli, 42, a security guard, was sentenced to 14 months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here on Friday.
Eddysurimi pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same code.
He was accused of intentionally causing injury to his 36-year-old wife by kicking her stomach at a house in Kampung Pandak on Feb 3 at around 10 am.
Based on the facts of the case, at the time of the incident, a verbal argument occurred between the couple who have five children from 18 years of marriage, which led to the incident where the accused kicked the victim’s stomach.
Following the incident, the victim, who works as an eatery assistant, experienced pain and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The victim also filed a police report, which then led to the accused’s arrest on Feb 4 in Kampung Pasir Panjang at around 11 am.
The investigation revealed that the accused intentionally caused injuries to his wife, and the victim’s medical report confirmed that she suffered soft tissue injuries in the abdominal area.
It is understood that the accused admitted to his actions because he suspected that his wife was having an affair after seeing calls to another man on her phone.
However, the victim stated that the real cause of the incident was that the accused—who had already pronounced a divorce (talak satu)—was unhappy that she was filing for divorce with the Sarawak Islamic Religious Council.
The accused is also still undergoing psychiatric treatment due to addiction to nospan pills and ketum juice and is also prescribed sedatives.
