BINTULU: The Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD) has launched the Industrial Continuous Professional Development (iCPD) Programme– Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Coordinator Programme 2025 to enhance workplace safety and equip Sarawak’s workforce with essential skills.
According to MEITD deputy secretary Anielia Siam, the programme aims to address evolving industry demands and strengthen occupational safety and health (OSH) standards across various sectors.
She emphasised its role in preparing workers for the challenges of a rapidly changing global landscape.
“Human capital is the foundation of any advanced economy, and this initiative underscores our commitment to upskilling and reskilling the workforce,” she said in her speech, representing MEITD Minister Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn during the launching of the programme recently.
She added that OSH certification is not only a legal requirement under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (Amendment) 2022 but also a moral obligation.
Furthermore, she stated that the OSH Coordinator Programme aims to reduce workplace risks by prioritising safety across all sectors.
“In 2019, Malaysia recorded 578 workplace fatalities. These numbers are not just statistics—they represent the loss of lives and the impact on families and communities,” she explained.
The iCPD OSH Coordinator Programme was first introduced in 2024 as part of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
Now in its second year, it has been expanded to include Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) certification.
This enhancement reflects the programme’s dedication to developing a highly skilled and safe workforce to meet the demands of a green and technologically advanced economy.
