BAU: Self-employed individuals are strongly encouraged to contribute to the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) under Act 789 (Self-Employment Social Security Act) to ensure they receive proper protection in case of unforeseen incidents.

Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang emphasised the importance of making contributions, as it offers various benefits that can be claimed by contributors and their dependents.

“There are many benefits that can be enjoyed through PERKESO contributions, including financial assistance for dependents in case of unexpected events.

“Therefore, I urge more self-employed individuals to take proactive steps by contributing for their own and their families’ protection,” he said.

He said this while presenting the prihatin aid box and Funeral Management Benefit from PERKESO to the family of the late Paul Thomas Asen at Kampung Stenggang on Monday (Mar 10).

During the event, Sarawak PERKESO director Tan Phang Chia also shared important information with the deceased’s family and Billy on the benefits provided.

According to him, PERKESO has credited RM3,000 in Funeral Management Benefits to the deceased’s dependents.

Additionally, the dependents are also eligible for a monthly pension of RM588, as the late Paul was a contributor under Act 789.

On the same occasion, Billy also inspected the progress of the construction of the Bantuan Ehsan Kebakaran housing project in Kampung Stenggang to ensure that the construction work is running smoothly.

Also present at the event was Kpg Sepadah village chief Anthony Jirang.
